Unless you are a Pit Bull lover or defender you may not know that Pit Bulls in generations past were often referred to as Nanny Dogs because they were so good as trusted protectors and companions of babies and small children.
Families prized them for their compassion, gentleness, strength, and loyalty.
They were considered “America’s Dog” and "America's Sweetheart Breed." Petey, the Little Rascal’s dog, Nipper, the RCA dog, and Tige, Buster Brown’s dog were breeds now referred to as Pit Bulls.
Helen Keller famously had a Pit Bull, Phurghahurg, as a childhood pet.
